So Bad 2:210:00/2:21
covered in frosting
So, something has to fund this musical rock experience. Here's the story: Through years of rock and roll escapades, Spiv knew Joe and Gina. Spiv knew Rich and had played many gigs with him. Spiv introduced Rich to Joe and Gina for a cover band they had. Joe and Gina liked Rich. Gina asked Spiv to be in a new band with Joe and Rich. Spiv said, I guess… Gina formed a new cover band called “FALLEN IDOL” (brilliant name, btw). That band had been together for a couple of years, when at a rehearsal, Gina sat the band down, looked Spiv in the eyes and said she wanted to work on FROSTING music. Spiv said, wait - wha? !?!
Confused yet?
Amid the flurry of excitement after about a year of rehearsing the past FROSTING catalog and writing for our third FROSTING release, the Fallen Idol/Frosting combo platter was well underway.
However, things tend to get confusing having two band names, an alter ego of sorts, same band members, promoting both at the same gig, etc. Playing original music at club cover shows/festivals and promoting both? We're aggressively working and recording new material for a third FROSTING release, and FROSTING has a music history of over a decade despite a hiatus. It was time to clear the confusion and make a decision.
The Decision: Just call everything FROSTING. That's where were at - transitioning the Fallen Idol shows to be billed as FROSTING, and all shows moving forward, original and cover.
As an original music maker my whole life (Spiv), this was always a contentious point being in a band. Original music purists tend to think less seriously of bands that do cover gigs, blah blah. That's fine. I don't. Good music is good music and a good band is a good band. If anything, it keeps us playing, keeps us promoting, and makes us a little bit of $ which is helpful when you're writing, recording, pressing, touring and supporting a new release.
So that's the story, that's what we decided on, and that's how we're moving forward.
Feel free to email us booking@frostingband.com if you'd like to discuss further.
Upcoming FROSTING / Fallen Idol transitional shows on the books:
FROSTING HAS A NEW DEBUT SHOW! The new, explosive, exciting circa 2025 FROSTING lineup is coming in hot with a bunch of new songs, and kicking out some of the FROSTING “classics” on Saturday, June 6 at an old familiar NW Chgo regional rock and roll stomping ground, Durty Nellies in Palatine, IL. 5 band bill, 18 & over show. Doors at 6pm, Frosting hits at 8pm. Plenty of copies of old school CD's of FROSTING'S first two releases - Fresh Frosting and Frosting 2 will be available. and maybe some old posters if SPIV can find them. Actually, the new Digipack CD of Fresh Frosting will be for the first time available at this show! Go on EBAY and get a CD walkman! And, if you don't know what a CD is or what to do with it, you can always use it as a drink coaster!
It doesn't end there for FROSTING - a re-release of Frosting 2 should be hitting a two month radio campaign (yes, people still listen to terrestrial radio, and the numbers are growing) The first single “Idolatry” is slated for press and promotion. We will keep you updated!
Meanwhile FROSTING is making great progress on writing/recording material for a third release, date tba. Super exciting times!
